Marc Vilanova

Sound and light artist working at the intersection of art and technology. My artistic production has always been led by a spirit of innovation fueled by an interest in new media. My work is an exploration of the interaction between human beings and machines, often with a focus on the relationship between sound and visual elements.

I’m currently creating audiovisual performances/installations while also working with electroacoustic compositions, improvisation, and interdisciplinary collaborations with dance, theatre and moving images. My pieces have been presented in festivals around the world in Japan, the U.S., Canada, Brazil, Colombia, Iran, Taiwan, Russia and many countries in Europe,
collaborating with artists such Fred Frith, Agustí Fernández, John Butcher, Émilie Girard-Charest or Alfred Zimmerlin.

My video works, installations and performances had been awarded with several international prizes such as: Kara Award 2018, First prize at the International Contest of Sound Art Performance in Zaragoza 2014, The Encouragement Prize from the Tokyo Experimental Festival 2016, Best Experimental Work at CTL’59 or Jury Prize at the World Saxophone Congress Strasbourg’15 among others.

As an educator, I led workshops on transdisciplinary creation, live electronics on acoustic instruments, free improvisation and extended techniques. I’ve been invited as a guest professor at the Tokyo National University, Universidad de los Andes, Universidad Javeriana de Bogotá, Moshen Gallery Teheran, Federal University of Rio de Janeiro “UNIRIO”, Sibelius Academy Helsinki, Hochschule für Musik Basel and many more.
